June E. (Baxter) Doerner, 90, Milan, died Tuesday in Norwalk Memorial Nursing Home following an extended illness.
She was born June 21, 1917, in Steuben, Ohio. She graduated from Berlin Heights High School, and lived in Milan for 63 years. Beginning in 1936, jobs being scarce, June went to work picking peasfor 1 a pound, berries for 1 a quart, and hoed for $1.25 a day. She had worked at Berlin Heights Drug Store where she made ice cream bars. Later, she worked at the Berlin Box Co., Huron Kraut Co., Bellevue Candy Co., where she wrapped Dum Dums, and finally at Philco Co. in Sandusky. She was a member of Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, the WSCS of the Church, a lifelong member of the Milan Mothers Club and the pinochle club. She enjoyed her family and music.
Her two daughters, Donna (Ted) Gastier, Milan, andBeverly (Gordon) Cring, Norwalk; daughter-in-law, Sharon Doerner, Norwalk; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews survive her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Russell Doerner, who died April 8, 1999; son Larry Doerner, who died Feb. 5, 2003; parents, Arthur and Marjorie (Ryerson) Baxter; sisters, Joy Baxter, Janette Baxter, Helen Diringer, and Annabelle Settles; and John Baxter and Beers Baxter.
Friends may call from 3-5 p.m., Friday, in Groff Funeral Home,1 S. Main Street, Milan, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday in Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, where a 10:30 a.m. funeral service will be conducted with the Rev. Jeffrey Stoll officiating. Burial will follow in Milan Cemetery.
