Helen G. Wiles, 102, formerly of 232 Home Circle Drive, Bucyrus, died Saturday morning, Jan. 19, 2008, in Altercare of Bucyrus.
She was born in Bloomville to William H. and Carrie (Kirgis) Mayers, now deceased. Helen first married A.L. Holloway, an automotive dealer in Bucyrus, who preceded her in death. Her second marriage was to Charles L. Wiles, a Bucyrus area banker. They were married July 13, 1958, and hepreceded her in death Feb. 25, 1987.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, Nancy E. (Robert) Stauffer and Phyllis J. (Donald) Reed, both of Bucyrus; a number of stepgrandchildren; as well as cousins, Mrs. Walser Greathouse, who is also 102, of Seattle, Dr. Robert Bartholomew of Sandusky, Frances Harter of West Unity, Ohio, and Arthur Eberly of Rotonda West, Fla.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Austin Mayers; two stepsons, Archie L. Holloway Jr. and Wilbert J. Holloway; and a cousin, Mary Bartholomew.
Helen graduated from Bloomville High School and from St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Toledo on May 28, 1927. She was a member of the Crocus Club; the Red Cross, where she taught classes and was chairman from 1971-73; the Bucyrus Presbyterian Church where she served as secretary beginning in 1957 and serving several years; OES 223 Luella Chapter of Bloomville since Feb. 29, 1924; and was a Lady Shriner with the Bucyrus Shrine Club.
Helen received her 50-year voting certificate from Gov. Robert Taft in 1993. She was an avid golfer,winning many awards. She lived most of her married life in the Bucyrus area but also owned a winter home in Carefree, Ariz., since 1978. Mr. and Mrs. Wiles enjoyed their extensive travels before his death.
A private graveside service will be in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. John Cory officiating. Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church through Wise Funeral Service. Condolences may be sent at wisefuneral.com.
