JoAnn M. Johnson, 75, of Sandusky, died Friday afternoon, Jan. 11, 2008, as a result of a traffic accident in Wayne County, Ohio. She and her husband, Melvin, who also died in the accident, were celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary, which was Friday.
She was born Oct. 3, 1932, in Sandusky. She retired from the former New Departure-Hyatt, Division of General Motors. Prior to this, she had worked in the Zion Lutheran Church Office. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sandusky, and Women of the Church. She loved to travel and attend tool shows with her husband.
She is survived by one son, Jeffery (Rosalind) Orticari of Sandusky; one daughter: Linda (David Myers) Orticari of Willard; two granddaughters, Aimee (James) Miller and Tasha Orticari, both of Sandusky; two stepgrandsons, Greg Deering of Columbus, Ohio, and Tim Deering of Streetsboro, Ohio; five stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Lila (Rolland) Bertsch and Marjorie (James) Cremean, both of Sandusky; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Esther (Krawetzki) McDermott.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the funeral at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
The Rev. John B. Mawhirter will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
