Melvin F. Johnson, 83, of Sandusky, died Friday afternoon, Jan. 11, 2008, as a result of a traffic accident in Wayne County, Ohio. He and his wife, JoAnn, who also died in the accident, were celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary, which was Friday.
He was born July 12, 1924, in Lakeside, and was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He was employed at the former New Departure-Hyatt, Division of General Motors, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sandusky, Lowell C. Hein Post 2529, VFW, and Mid Ohio Tool Club.
He was an avid antique woodworking collector, a very talented furniture maker, and loved to travel and attend tool shows.
He is survived by one brother, Myron C. Johnson of Lakeside; one sister, Sara Mulchay of Front Royal, Va.; and 11 nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary; and his parents, Charles C. & Bessie (Cowell) Johnson.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
The Rev. John B. Mawhirter will officiate.
Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
