Melvin G. Phillips, 69, ofWillard, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, in the Cleveland Clinic following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 28, 1938, in Willard, the son of the late Eugene and Anna (Gwirtz) Phillips. He was a life-long Willard resident. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and he owned and operated the M.G. Phillips Trucking Company. He was a member of the St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church,Willard American Legion and Bellevue Eagles Club.
He is survived by his wife,Margaret (Deibert) Phillips, whom he married May 22, 1965; two sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin M. and Cathy Phillips of Fremont, and Brian and Tracy Phillips of Attica; seven grandchildren,Sharece and Iiana Phillips of Fremont, and Jordan, Isaac, Macy, Jack and Alec Phillips of Attica; one sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Don Heil of Tiffin; one brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Dian Phillips of Willard; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a friend of many.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Friday, with visitation from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church in Marywood, Ohio; the Rev. Paul A. Fahrbach will officiate. Burial will follow at the St. Sebastian Catholic Cemetery in Bismark, Ohio.
