Nina Hale McGory ended her 85-year journey in life surrounded by family in Firelands Hospital Sunday afternoon, Jan. 6, 2008.
Nina, also known in her early years by her middle name, Kathleen, was born July 22, 1922, in Hamilton, Ohio. She was a graduate of Reily High School, Butler County, Ohio, and Miami University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education.
While at Miami University, she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi social sorority, Kappa Delta Pi, the Alethenai Society, Les Politiques, and University Players. She was also a sophomore counselor and president of the Pan-Hellenic Council. She taught grade school in Middleton, Ohio; at St. Peter, Huron, and in Perkins Schools. Nina was a Camp Fire Girls leader, former auxiliary member of Sandusky Yacht Club and Sandusky College Women's Club, and a current member of the Huron Yacht Club. Nina most enjoyed the outdoors and holiday gatherings of family and friends. She was an avid observer of nature in all of its forms.
Nina is survived by her husband of 62 years, Maurice J. (Mac) McGory; son, Peter (Holly) McGory; daughter, Linda McGory; four grandchildren, Ashlea, Erin, Katelin and Christian; and other extended, but closely-knit family members.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents, William Dean Hale and Myrtle McCoy Hale, and her grandparents, Charles and Mary Dunn, by whom she was raised.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will gather at 10 a.m. Friday in the Guild Room of Grace Episcopal Church, Sandusky, to share remembrances and coffee. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. in Grace Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Victory Temple Kitchen, Care and Share of Sandusky, Back to the Wild, or The Humane Society of Erie County.
