John G. Lichtle, 77, of Sandusky, passed away early Saturday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2008, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Loudon Twp., Seneca County, Ohio. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army with the 2nd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device and a Purple Heart while serving with Company C, 23rd Infantry Regiment. He retired in 1990 from the Ohio Veterans Home where he worked as the facility engineer for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Post 83 and Catholic War Veterans.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann M. (Collopy) Lichtle whom he married July 4, 1953; two daughters, Deborah (Dana) Oeder of Sandusky and Pamela (Ray) Randolph of California; son, Stephen (Mary) Lichtle of Castalia; eight grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; three brothers, Chuck, George and Harold (Lil) Lichtle; four sisters, Sister Ignatius, Luella (Bob) Wheeler, Lucille (Ed) Santa and Bonnie Santa; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David A. Lichtle in 1996 and John G. Lichtle II in 2005; his parents, Isadore and Eulalia (Imber) Lichtle; and six brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. James E. Peiffer will officiate. At his request, cremation will take place following services. Interment will be later in the Calvary Cemetery Columbarium, Sandusky.
