Lester J. Norman, 83, of Sandusky, passed away Jan. 2, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Bellevue, to Benjamin H. and Dora W. (Herborn) Norman. He married Mabel K. Newell Feb. 14, 1953, and she survives.
Lester was a 1942 graduate of Bellevue Central High School. He was a founding partner at Sandusky Packaging Corp., where he served as secretary and treasurer. He retired in 1997. Lester served in the U.S. Army as an aerial engineer during WWII, and was discharged with honors.
Lester was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sandusky, and served as an usher for more than 40 years, and also served as president of church council. Lester was a member of Sandusky Yacht Club, American Legion Post 83, Port Clinton Moose and the Amateur Trap Shooting Association. He enjoyed hunting, trapshooting and traveling.
Lester is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mabel K. Norman; daughters, Cynthia A. Norman of Sandusky; sons, Kevin S. (Rena) Norman and Gregory A. Norman, both of Huron; brother, Willis Norman of Bellevue; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Thelma E. McDowell.
Visitation is from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Bardshar Road, Sandusky. Interment will take place in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
