Willard N. Shade, 89, of Attica, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at Mercy Hospital of Willard after suffering declining health over the last year.
He was born Oct. 10, 1918, in rural Willard, to Earl and Anna (Ebringer) Shade. He was first married March 17, 1948, to Aldean (Schafer) Shade, who preceded him in death on December 24, 1951; he then married Pauline (Leonhart) Shade on June 6, 1953.
He worked hard all of his life in the building, electrical, plumbing and heating trades. He was very kind-hearted and he enjoyed providing for others in need. He loved his John Deere to mow and blow snow with; he also enjoyed his pond, gardening and working with Shard Plumbing and Heating until his poor health forced him to stop. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pauline; two sons, W. Norman (Patricia) Shade of Zanesville, Ohio, and Rodney (Sharon) Shade of Attica; four granddaughters, Pamela (John) Hayes of Centerton, Ark., Rebecca (Steve) Bartalskey of Perrysburg, Ohio, Heather (Randy) Stockmaster of Bellevue, and Brenda (Justin) Ruffing of Monroeville; eight great-grandchildren, Kylen, Ryan, Kamryn and Andrew Hayes of Centerton, Kelsey and Megan Bartalskey of Perrysburg, and Olivia Rose and Isabel Mae Stockmaster of Bellevue; three brothers, Dalton Shade of Norwalk, Herbert Shade of Republic, Ohio, and Robert Shade of Willard; and three sisters, Mildred Sweet of Norwalk, Violet (Richard) Snook and Evelyn Baxter, both of Willard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Ernest Shade; two brothers-in-law, Henry Sweet and Kenneth Baxter; two sisters-in-law, Grace Shade and Thelma Shade; and one grandson, Brian Shade.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica, and 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, at the church, with the Rev. Kathleen Shuck officiating. Burial will be in Attica-Venice Twp. Cemetery, Attica.
