Alex "Butch" Meterko, 94, of Marblehead, died Dec. 30, 2007, in Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky.
He was born March 27, 1913, in Marblehead, the son of Michael and Helen (Soltis) Meterko. He married Helen Twarek on June 26, 1943. Mr. Meterko was a barber at the Lakeside Barber Shop. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving in World War II. He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Church, a life member of VFW Post 7572, Marblehead, and former member of American Legion Post 555, Marblehead. He collected guns and enjoyed trap shoot competitions at Camp Perry.
Surviving are his daughters, Helen Anne (Bill) Byrnes of Woodbridge, Conn. and Marilyn (Rick) Orcutt of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; sons, Robert (Sue) Meterko of Port Clinton and Ray (Pat) Meterko of North Ridgeville, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, on Nov. 26, 2007; parents; one sister; and four brothers.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, Lakeside-Marblehead. Additional visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Byzantine Church, Marblehead followed by Office of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Byzantine Cemetery, Marblehead, with VFW Post 7572 rendering military honors.
