Mary Marie Sims, 84, of Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, with her family by her side, after a brief illness.
She was born in Flint, Mich., the daughter of Albert and Marie (LaChance) Spohn. She worked at N&W Railway in Bellevue, and retired after many years with Perkins Schools as custodian. She was a member of American Legion Post 83 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2529. She was a Native American of the Grand Ronde Tribe located in Grand Ronde, Ore.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin Sims; two sons, Thomas and Gary Tarring, both of Sandusky; daughter, Sandra Tarring of Conneaut, Ohio; stepchildren, David (Mary) Sims, Sandusky, Roy (Ginger) Sims, Huron, Diana Sims, Sandusky, and Linda (Kevin) Eck, Reynoldsburg, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward Allen of Clio, Mich. and Kenneth Spohn, of Michigan; sisters, Florence (Anne) Spohn and Dort Allen of Flint, Delorese Good of Prescott, Mich., Thelma (Jean) Benard of Clio, Shirley Snell of Batesville, Ariz., and Onetta Spohn-Downer of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews. All of us mourn her passing away.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Fred Allen; her first husband, Russell Tarring; son, James Tarring; daughter-in-law Dorothy, wife of Thomas; infant granddaughter; brothers Robert Allen, James Spohn and Richard Allen; and a sister, Bertha Spohn.
Family and friends will be received from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery.
