Robert R. Russ, 80, Milan, died Wednesday morning in Stein Hospice Care Center, following a brief illness.
He was born April 26, 1927 in Berlinville, Ohio. He attended Milan High School. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Chapin and Chapin and T.J. Hume, owned and operated Bob's Gulf Service Station in Milan, and retired from the Ohio Turnpike Commission. He served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Ingraham. He was a member of Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, past member and president of the Norwalk Eagles, past president of the Lions Club IOOF, and a member of the American Legion.
Robert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilma Jean (Doerner); his daughter, Nancy (Tom) Gfell, Milan; his son, Gary (Lisa) Russ, Gahanna, Ohio; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita (William) Lambert and Kathleen (Andre) LaVine, both of Milan; and nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Irene (Greenhoe) Russ; and his grandson, Matthew Gfell on Dec. 3, 2004.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Groff Funeral Home, 1 South Main St., Milan. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, 10 E. Church St., Milan; the Rev. Jeffery Stoll will officiate. Burial will follow in Milan Cemetery.
