Vera M. Nickel, 89, of Huron, died Dec. 11, 2007, in Providence Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Sandusky and attended Sandusky High School. She was a homemaker but worked at Hinde and Dauch Paper Company, Philco and Periodical Publishers for many years. With her husband, she owned and operated Nick's Produce Stand for nearly 20 years. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing pinochle and was known for her fabulous cooking. She was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ and Sandusky Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra S. (Bob) Reiber of Sandusky; son, Thomas C. Nickel of Huron; three grandchildren, Eric and David (Beth) Reiber of Sandusky and Traci (Richard) Thompson of Covington, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Christopher Adcock, Austin Reiber, Mindy Graham and Madison Reiber; and brother, Charles Martin of Woodstock, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. "Nick" Nickel, Jan. 24, 2007, and by her parents, Lester E. and Ada (McLaughlin) Martin.
At her request, cremation has taken place. Her family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 E. Jefferson St., Sandusky. Interment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
