Dennis Leon Hay, 66, of Bellevue, died unexpectedly Dec. 19, 2007, in Bellevue Hospital.
He was born Oct. 30, 1941, in Bellevue, to Leon Hay and Rose Marie (Hipp) Hay-Miller, now deceased. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1959, where he was captain of the football team his senior year. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Huron County Fair Board, a past president of the Bellevue Eagles, and was a Bellevue FFA alumni charter member.
He was a supervisor at the Ohio Department of Transportation and enjoyed camping, card playing, fishing, traveling and hunting. He cherished time with his family.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Rita (Gilbert) Hay, who he married June 19, 1965; a son, Jeffrey (Joyce) Hay of Portage, Mich.; daughter, Jodi (Chuck) Gaietto of Tiffin; two step-grandchildren, Mark and Ashley Gaietto; sisters, Barbara (Frank) Risner, Lancaster, Pa., Sharon (Charles) Durnwald, New Washington, Ohio, Kathleen (Dean) Miller, Bellevue, and Sandra (William) Dean, Norwalk; brothers, Fred Hay, Attica, Ohio, Larry (Eileen) Hay, Clyde, and Steve (Cheryl) Hay, Bellevue; father-in-law, Ernest Gilbert, and wife Fran, of Bellevue; in-laws, Audrey & Richard Moyer and Pamela & Daniel Verhoff, all of Bellevue; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special great-niece, Rachelle Forney.
His mother-in-law, Doris Ellen Gilbert, preceded him in death January 20, 1990.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, with an Eagles service at 7:30 p.m., at Auxter Funeral Home, Bellevue. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Keith Stripe officiating. Burial will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery.
