Robert J. Cottey, 78, of Homosassa, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, in Hospice of Citrus County House in Lecanto, Fla.
He was born March 24, 1929, in Sandusky, the son of James and Viola Cottey.
He was a member of the 1952 West Point graduating class. He served in the U.S. Army for 26 years before retiring as colonel in 1978. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He and his family moved back to the United States from Germany in 1978, to Sandusky, where they resided for one year before moving to Gainesville, Fla., and then to Homosassa in 1994. While in Gainesville, he served on the Veteran Memorial Board. He enjoyed reading the Wall Street Journal and similarpublications.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara A. Cottey of Homosassa; son, Robert J. Cottey of Gainesville; brother Donald E. Cottey of Bradenton, Fla.; sister Ruth McCarthy of Sandusky; and three grandchildren, Jason Cottey of Ogden, Utah, Evan Shroka of Gainesville, and Katherine Shroka of Williston, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Shroka, in 2006.
Arrangements will be made through Heinz Funeral Home & Cremation in Inverness, Fla.
