Arthur "Gene" Richards, age 87, of Florence, Ohio, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, evening in Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk.
He was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Hoopeston, Ill., and has lived in the Florence area most of his life.
He served in the U.S. Army in Europe and Africa during WWII. Following the war, he worked at Bendix-Westinghouse in Elyria, Ohio.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Gibson Lodge 301 in Wakeman, Ohio, and the Vermilion AMVETS Post 22. He was also a member of the Florence Congregational Church. He was an avid golfer and member of the Oberlin Golf Club. He enjoyed reading and playing bridge.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia (Seneff); daughter, Rhonda (Don) Nelson of Rochester Hills, Mich.; granddaughter Katie Nelson of Ann Arbor, Mich., and grandson Philip Nelson ofIndianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur E. Richards and Ruth (Sims) Rumbold; and daughter Jeaneen Richards.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday at Morman-Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home,38 South St., Berlin Heights, Ohio, with a 4 p.m. MasonicService. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Florence Congregational Church, Ohio 113, Florence. Pastor Kelly Clemens will officiate. Burial will follow atBirmingham Cemetery.
