Robert Weitzel, 93, of Oak Harbor and a former long-time resident of Graytown, Ohio, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio.
He was born March 9, 1914, in Scott's Bluff, Neb., to Henry and Catherine Weitzel. On June 12, 1933, in North Platte, Neb., he married Mary Holman and she survives. Robert worked as a high lift operator for Standard Products in Port Clinton, for 34 years, until his retirement in 1979. Prior to that he worked for 10 years at Erie Proving Grounds. He was very witty. Robert loved reading, hunting, fishing, spending time in his barn with his John Deere tractors, and especially loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 74 years, Mary Weitzel of Oak Harbor; children, Geneva (George) Tibbetts of Largo, Fla., Richard (Daisy) Weitzel of Rocky Ridge, Ohio, Nancy Felice of Rochester, N.Y., JoAnn (Donald) Humphrey of Castalia, and Gerri (C.J.) Smith of Perrysburg; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; five great-grea-grandchildren; and brothers, Harold Weitzel of Albert Lee of Minnesota, and Walter Weitzel of Blue Earth, Minn.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday in Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, where funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Pastor Larry Snyder will officiate. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor.
