Thomas P. "Tommy" Scavio, 49, of Huron, died early Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 4, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a yearlong battle with cancer.

Tom was born in Sandusky, Nov. 3, 1958, and was a 1977 graduate of Perkins High School. He was an airman in the U.S. Navy and served in the Persian Gulf during the hostage crisis in Iran. For 15 years he worked at Industrial Nut in Sandusky, and later went to work at Ford Motor Company in Lorain and then in Avon Lake. Tom was a devoted father to his loving children. He enjoyed going to his kids' sporting events and going fishing. For many years he was an avid Harley-Davidson rider.

He was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and VFW 2529.

He is survived by his children, Adriana C. and Vinny C. Scavio, both at home; parents, Thomas Lawrence and Marjorie Jane (Baker) Scavio; brother, Doug (Diane) Scavio of Temperance, Mich.; sisters, Renee (Jim) Hofbauer of Oregon, Ohio, and Marsha (Paul) Yeager of Huron; aunt, Rose Marie Lombardy of Sandusky; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Lucille (Armbruster) Baker and paternal grandparents, Pete and Minnie (Caponi) Scavio.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, with liturgical services at 7:30 p.m., at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Friday morning at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Marty Nassr will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Sandusky.
