Mother Mary Brown, 90, of Sandusky, went to her heavenly home Sunday morning, Dec. 2, 2007, from Concord Care and Rehabilitation Center, after an extensive illness.
She was born July 27, 1917, in Columbus, Miss., to the union of John and Margie (Fisher) Jones, the eldest of eight children. She grew up in Mississippi, attended a country school named Aledel, worked in the cotton fields and was employed at a county greenhouse.
Mother Mary married her long-time friend, Wardell Brown, and they were blessed with four children. In 1945, she and the children moved to Ohio to join her husband. She was employed in numerous positions both privately and commercially, including housekeeping at the Medical Arts Building and the former Providence Hospital.
She was an active member of Fellowship Church of God in Christ, Sandusky. She was a former Sunday school teacher, former president of the Usher Board and the Pastor's Aide. She served as a missionary until her health failed. She claimed her greatest accomplishment was "serving the Lord." She will be remembered for singing God's praises and doing His work, even in the nursing home.
