Helmut Thomsen, 69, of Sandusky, passed away late Friday afternoon, Nov. 30, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 21, 1938, in Lyst Auf Sylt, Germany and moved to the United States in 1958. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1961-63. He was a master baker for more than 60 years and was owner/operator of Feddersen's Bakery since 1964. He loved his work and traveling. He was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, American Legion Post 83, and a life member of AMVETS Post 17.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn A. (Conrad) Thomsen; his family, Robin S. (Randy Burroughs) Dwight of Clyde, Richard H. (Lisa) Thomsen of Medina, Ohio, and Justin D. (Lori) Harris and Jeramy A. Harris, both of Sandusky; 11 grandchildren, Bruce, Chris, Chad, Corey, Matt, Chris L., Tera, Bradley, Michael, Ryan and McKenzie; seven great-grandchildren, Chase, Caden, Lauryn, Jade, Richelle, Shae and Haidyn; and brother, Peter (Ursala) Thomsen of Hamburg, Germany.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Thomsen; and parents, Peter and Helene (Tollgradt) Thomsen.
At his request cremation will take place. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen United Church of Christ, 905 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Rob Patton will officiate.
