George Thomas McMahon, 88, of Monroeville, died Saturday evening, Dec. 1, 2007, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk, after a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 21, 1919, in Bellevue. George was a retired family farmer and Lyme Township employee after 10 years as a maintenance man. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and feeding birds and squirrels. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville, St. John Newman Chapter 1117, Knights of Columbus and Elks Lodge 1013, Bellevue.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Rita Smith Englert, whom he married Nov. 22, 1956; one stepdaughter, Elizabeth O. "Betty" (Owen) Schafer of Norwalk; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by two stepsons, Thomas and William Englert; his parents, Thomas and Amanda (Smith) McMahon; three sisters, Margaret Eberly, Mary Moore and Katie Widner; and one brother, Gene McMahon.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe St., Monroeville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel St., Monroeville, with The Rev. Kenneth J. Lill officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.
