Deannie "Dennis" Card, 88, of Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, peacefully at his home with his wife and family surrounding him.
He was born June 2, 1919, in Auburn, Ala. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army, he moved to Detroit and settled in Sandusky.
He retired in 1984 from Eckrich Meat Packing Corporation in Fremont. Dennis was a faithful member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
He leaves to mourn, his beloved wife, Annie; sister, Charlie Bell Calloway of Decatur, Ga.; sister-in-law, Pecola "Doll" Card of Detroit; special nephews, Arthur (Stella) Johnson of Maple Heights, Ohio, and Charles Alexander of Sandusky; special niece, Sabrina Johnson of Cleveland; special cousin, J.C. (Barbara) McCal of Port Clinton; special friend, Emma J. Baxley and daughters, Patricia (James) Matthews, Sherma (Tracey) Shoemo, Phyllis (Vernon) Brantley, Viola (Rommel) McKinney, Kasandra (Jacob) Moore, and Denise (Mark) Warren; godchildren, James Murphy, Dennis Norris, Trina (Jason) Henlon, Travis Cooper and Emmico (Michael) Morris; and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Katie, and father, Ludie Card; sisters, Bessie Holyfield, Annie Bailey, Minnie Grier, Thelma Yancey, Leola Harris, Artie Fears and Annie Francis; and brothers, Charlie Card, Lee Morgan, Eddie Card, Charlie Miles and Johnnie Miles.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Thursday until funeral services at 1 p.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1920 Shelby St., Sandusky. The Rev. Eddie Henry will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
