Fred Houghtlen, 72, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.
He was born June 25, 1935, in Norwalk, and lived in Mansfield for the last 20 years, having grown up in the Collins area. He worked at Tenneco in Milan. He was a member of the Moose Club, Galion, and enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Papa".
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth (Reer); his children, Donya (Melvin) Lloyd of Milan, Randy (Linda) Houghtlen of Milan, Kevin (Betty Jane) Houghtlen of Milan and Tresa (Joe) Ohlemacher of Norwalk; brothers and sisters, Bonnie Houghtlen of Norwalk, Dale (Fran) Houghtlen of Norwalk, Shirley (Jack) Churc of Bowling Green, Mabel Rossi of New Jersey and Flossie Meade of Norwalk; his mother-in-law, Christine Reer of Norwalk; six grandchildren, Nicole, Tania, Casey, Jeremy, Aaron and Matthew; one great-grandchild, Logan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Donna (Farley) Houghtlen; a brother, Kenneth; three sisters, Donna, Neva and Betty; and his father-in-law, Fred Reer.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Morman-Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home, 38 South St., Berlin Heights, where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Joyce Schroer will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
