Harlow C. Matz, 98, of Parkvue Place, Sandusky, and formerly of Milan, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, in Parkvue Healthcare Center.
He was born Feb. 20, 1909, the son of Earl and Emma (Kistler) Matz in Bellevue, where he lived in his youth. Mr. Matz was a 1930 graduate of Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. He taught math and science at Margaretta High School, Castalia and later in Fremont. He earned his master's degree from The Ohio State University in 1936. In 1943 he joined Union Carbide in Cleveland and continued a career in management in Charlotte, N.C., Cleveland, and Bennington, Vt., and retired in 1974 as plant manager in Athens, Greece.
Survivors include his daughter, Constance Kevil of Stamford, Conn., and his granddaughter, Abigail Hicks of Dublin, Ireland.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Martha W. (Zieber) Matz on Nov. 22, 1996, whom he married June 10, 1933, in Bellevue; his daughter, Carol Hicks; his parents; a brother; and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Tuesday until services at 2 p.m. at Harris-Foos Funeral Home, 289 W. Main St., Bellevue, with Pastor Jane-Ann Clarke of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Flat Rock Cemetery, Flat Rock
