Joe Arry "Ed" Keys, 59, of Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, surrounded by family and friends, after a long battle with lung cancer.

Ed was born May 20, 1948, in Sumerland, Miss., and moved to Sandusky as a very young child. He was a standout in football and was known as the most dynamic running back for Sandusky High School, where he graduated in 1967. He was inducted into the Sandusky High School Athletic Hall of Fame on May 10, 2003.

He was a dedicated employee of General Motors-Delphi Division and retired after 35 years of service. Ed was a patient, loving, caring kind-hearted man that never complained about anything. Ed was the leader of the pack, may times leading the family on annual trips to his brother Joe's home in Kentucky. In his spare time, he loved to bake, travel and do carpentry. He was a member of Emmanuel Temple Church, where he was baptized and received the Holy Ghost.

Ed leaves to rejoice his wife, Paula Keys of Sandusky; sons, James (Lisa) Keys of Dayton, Ohio, and Ryan Keys of Sandusky; stepchildren, Kiya Johnson and Jeffrey Johnson, both of Sandusky, Pastor Mark Johnson of California, and Paul Garnet of Columbus; mother, Callie Keys of Sandusky; two grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe Keys of Kentucky, Butch (Gloria) Keys, Kemmes (JoAnne) Keys Sr. and Corby (Lee) Keys Jr., all of Sandusky; sisters, Callie (Jerry Sr.) Evans of Sandusky and Angela (Al) Alford of Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany; nine nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles and other relatives; his best friend, Hilman Lindsey; and many other friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Corby L. Keys Sr.; paternal grandparents, Donnie and Hester Keys; maternal grandparents, Liley and Mae Erma "Mama Liley" Keys; and a nephew, Kenneth Keys.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. Tuesday until funeral services at 1 p.m. in Emmanuel Temple Church, 128 E. Adams St., Sandusky. Bishop Dr. Rufus G.W. Sanders will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
