Bruce L. Corwin, 50, of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, after a heroic 31/2 half-year battle with metastatic cancer. He was first diagnosed in July 2002, and after treatment was in remission until mid-2004.
Bruce was born Feb. 25, 1957, in Cleveland, to Lawrence Earl and Laura Ruth (Dunn) Corwin. He grew up in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1975. He earned a bachelor of science degree, in a self-designed honors curriculum emphasizing business administration, chemistry and computer science, from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, in 1979. He later earned an MBA degree from the University of Chicago in 1994. Bruce started his business career working in the lab for PMS Consolidated in Sandusky, later moving to Chicago, and then Anoka, Minn., where he was manager of operations. In 1986, he moved to Valparaiso to join Bee Chemical in East Chicago, Ill., which after changes in ownership is now NB Coatings. Bruce transferred to the Lansing, Ill., plant, and at that time Bruce left the active workforce for disability. He was director of business processes for NB Coatings.
On April 26, 1980, in Coal Valley, Ill., Bruce married Christina Mohr, who survives, along with two daughters, Kathi and Debby Corwin, both of Valparaiso.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory, a memorial service will be at noon Saturday at Washington Evangelical Free Church, 3805 LaPorte Ave., Valparaiso. Pastor Dean Christianson will officiate.
