Dennis G. "Denny" Kurtz, 78, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning, Nov. 11, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.
He was born May 7, 1929, on Kelleys Island and was a 1947 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a veteran having served in the US Army during the Korean War. Denny worked at Scott Paper Company for more than 30 years and later retired from Citizens Bank where he worked as a courier for many years. He enjoyed sports, and helped coach his sons baseball teams and his grandson throughout the years. In his earlier days he played baseball and later went on to play softball in the local area for many years. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, bowling, and in his earlier days, camping with the family.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Norma Jean (Ernst) Kurtz, whom he married June 18, 1948; daughter, Denise (Jack) Thomas of Tampa, Fla.; sons, Jim (Debby) Kurtz and Dan (Angela) Kurtz, both of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Melissa, Amy, Christopher, Ashley, Carol Jean, Jina and Brian; three great-grandchildren, Amanda, Andrew and Austin; sister, Alice Jean Bagley of Sandusky; brother, Ronald Kurtz of Hawaii; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Edna (Schroeder) Kurtz; three brothers, Roger, Wesley and Gary Kurtz; and a sister, June Balduff.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Thursday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Marty Nassr will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
