Rose M. (Scherley) Meggitt, 93, of Sandusky, died early Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 6, 2007, in Erie County Care Facility after a briefillness.

She was born Sept. 29, 1914, in Reed Township, Ohio. She was the co-owner and operator of Meggitt's Music Store from 1940-66 and retired from J.C. Penney Co. in 1976. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she was a member of RCIA, the funeral committee, and Altar Rosary Society. She also volunteered at the former Providence Hospital gift shop for 17 years and the Sandusky Schools Chapter 1 reading program for18 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Rose Wright of Sandusky and Marcia Ann (David) Quilter of Chelsea, Mich.; a son, Fred (Kim) Meggitt of Alpharetta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Shawn Quilter, Michelle Solly, Jude (Angela) Quilter, Corrie Solly, Lindsay Meggitt, Ashley Meggitt and Mallory Meggitt; one great-grandchild, Jalen Alexander; four sisters,Florence Evans of Tucson, Ariz., Sister Charles Scherley OSF of Tiffin, Margaret (Harry) Williams of Sandusky, and Bernadette Hahler of Republic, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Mary Scherley of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Meggitt in July 1965; a son, Walter D. Meggitt on Feb. 1, 1977; her parents, Charles and Celestine (Hahl) Scherley; three brothers, Edwin, Leonard and Arthur Scherley; and threesisters, Lucille Rhoad, Mary Laub and Helen Russett.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where prayer services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral mass in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow inCalvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
