Robert H. "Bob" Szabrak

Robert H. "Bob" Szabrak, 82, of Sandusky, passed away early Tuesday morning, Nov. 6, 2007, in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Cleveland. He was a 1943 graduate of East Technical High School and a 1946 graduate of Fenn College School of Engineering. In 1973, he received an associate degree in professional management from John Carroll University. He was also a veteran of World War II having served in the Army Air Corps. Mr. Szabrak retired from Sam Stein Associates where he had been an Engineer and Plant Manager for nearly 30 years. During this time period he designed and helped build a battering and breading machine. He also held several patents. Prior to that he had worked at Republic Manufacturing, in Cleveland.

He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiwanis Club of Sandusky Bay, American Legion Post 83, International Management Council, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, American Machinist Society and Sandusky Bowling Association; and he enjoyed golfing on the Stein Associates Golf Team.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Lois Corinne (Turner) Szabrak; daughters, Susan (Edward) Zetzer of Sandusky, Kathryn (Walter) Helman of Dayton; five grandchildren, Scott Marksbury, Patrick (Jennifer) Helman, Erin (Scott) Abbott, Meredith Zetzer, Matthew (Colleen) Zetzer; four great-grandchildren, Kody and Kolten Marksbury, Abby and Brian Zetzer; two brothers, William Szabrak of Cleveland and Larry Szabrak of Mansfield; nieces and nephews; additional family, Donna (Thomas) Johnson of Lakewood, N.Y., Nancy (Gene) Cavalier of Belle Vernon, Pa., Vicki (Roger) Kinney of Milan, Kim (David) Hook of Portage, Mich., Todd (Mary Jane) Anderson of Berlin Heights; Lynn Goering, Mark, Scott and Amy Johnson, Robin Christ, Kristy Ochs, Melissa Leimeister, Nathan Kinney, Jeremy, Christopher, Adrienne and Eric Hook, Rachel, Kurt, Erica and Natalie Anderson; 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace (Cassidy) Szabrak; first wife, Evelyn (Hopp) Szabrak in 1976; granddaughter, Pamela Ann Marksbury in 1986; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane Zetzer in 2006; brother, Harry Szabrak.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be 9:40 a.m. Friday morning followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Marty Nassr will officiate. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday in Holy Cross Cemetery, 14609 Brookpark Road, Cleveland.
