SANDUSKY

Jerry G. Lippus, 76, of Sandusky, passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

He was born Feb. 12, 1931, in Sandusky, the son of Harry E. and Harriet K. (Bentley) Lippus. Jerry graduated from Sandusky High School in 1949, and from the University of Toledo with a marketing degree. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1951-1955. Jerry was the owner-operator of Clinton Auto Parts from 1959-1986. He also owned and operated South Shore Travel Agency from 1986-1998. As a business owner, Jerry was active in the Port Clinton Downtown Business Association. He was president of the association for 2.5 years and was known by all as "Mr. Downtown."

Jerry sold his travel agency and retired in 1998. His retirement, however, was short lived. With his knowledge of Downtown Port Clinton, he was coaxed out of retirement to work for the Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce, where he worked for the past eight years. Jerry had a passion for the Port Clinton community and worked tirelessly to affect positive change in the downtown area. Recently, the building that Jerry owned and operated his business from was renamed "The Lippus Building" in his honor, and was dedicated with a plaque. He was known by all for his quick wit, sense of humor and friendly manner. He was an avid collector, especially of cameras and stamps. Jerry enjoyed traveling domestically and to the Caribbean. He also enjoyed golf and visiting Back to the Wild in Castalia. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.

Survivors include, special friend and companion, Marlene Gulas of Port Clinton; son, Craig (Cathy) Lippus of San Jose, Calif., daughter, Sheri Lippus Taylor of Rocklin, Calif., and son, James (Susan) Lippus of Port Clinton; four grandchildren, Marchese Taylor, Jakob Taylor, Amy Lippus and Katie Lippus; sister, Judy (James) Smith of Sandusky; brother-in-law, William Smith of Sandusky; and many loving nieces and nephews.
