Alvin H. Wobser, 94, of Castalia, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, in the home of his beloved caregivers and great grandchildren, Andrea and Alan Strause of Castalia.
Alvin was born March 11, 1913, in Venice, Ohio, to Mary Wilken and Henry W. Wobser. He married his beloved sweetheart Mabel A. Scherz on Dec. 20, 1938, and they shared a wonderful life together for 56 years. His career, which began in 1927, was spent sailing the Great Lakes on the ships, the Chippewa and Reiss Brothers. He retired from the American Steam Engine Company, on the ship John A. Kling, where he spent his last 15 years as the chief conveyor engineer.
He is survived by his grandson, Gary L. (Dianne) Bath of Castalia; granddaughter-in-law, Nancy Bath of Castalia; granddaughter, Sharon (Todd) Miller of Castalia; son-in-law, Clair McCreery of Castalia; great-granddaughter and caregiver, Andrea (Alan) Strause of Castalia; great-grandson, Daniel (Julie) Bath of Sandusky; and other great-grandchildren, Allison (Cory) Burroughs of Phoenix, Ariz., Tricia (Kent) Purvis of Perrysburg; and Ryan Miller of Castalia; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mabel A. (Scherz) Wobser in February 1995; stepdaughter, Ivadell McCreery; grandson, Larry Bath; his parents; three brothers, Albert, Henry and Carl Wobser; two sisters, Marie Weyer and Adeline Scherz; and a sister in infancy.
Friends may call from 12-2 p.m. Friday in Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, where services will be 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
