Earl Joseph "Joe" Swain, 88, formerly of Akron, died Friday evening, Oct. 25, 2007, in the Providence Care Center, Sandusky following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Macksburg, Ohio and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was employed at Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Akron, for more than 30 years prior to his retirement.
He is survived by four sisters, Alice Shipley of La Plata, Md., Patricia Wilson of Huntington Beach, Calif., Margaret "Peg" Gavin of Pensacola, Fla., and Jean Louise Swain of Maryland; four brothers, David of Virginia, John of Temeculah, Calif., Richard and Donald, both of Sandusky; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Joseph Swain in 1980; his parents: E.V. and Muriel (Scarberry) Swain; three sisters, Muriel Hupp, Kathleen Cihy and June Pawlicky; and one brother, Raymond Swain.
At the request of the deceased, cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity. Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is in charge of the arrangements.
