Maxine M. Babcock, 87, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, in Mercy Medical Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. today at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel, Des Moines, Iowa.
Maxine was born Oct. 13,1920, in Roberts, Wis., to Carl and Lillian (Becker) Marek. She graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in St. Paul, Minn., in 1942, and was employed with Providence Hospital in Sandusky and St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul as a registered nurse. She had two years, two months and two days in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant with Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Aurora, Colo. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church since 1980. She was united in marriage to David Babcock May 1, 1947, and to this union had eight children, 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Maxine was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Babcock; parents; and sister, Norma Marek.
Maxine is survived by her husband, David; children, John (Carolyn) Babcock, Tom (Dorothy) Babcock, Mark (Linda) Babcock, William (Anne) Babcock, Katherine (Daniel) Hundt, Tami Babcock, Carolyn (Johnny) Merical and Bruce (Sherri) Babcock.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's or Multiple Sclerosis Association.
