The Rev. Albert G. "Al" Waitman Sr., 75, of Sandusky, passed away early Thursday morning at his home.
Albert was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Fremont, to Violet and Frank Waitman. He graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He received his BA and MA from Trinity College, Clearwater, Fla., as well as MA degrees from Trinity College, Mid-western Seminary, Pontiac, Mich., and Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, Ariz. He retired from GM (Mansfield CPC) in 1990. He taught school in Tucson and Bowie, Ariz., during the 1970s.
Lerita (Jencks) and Al were married Aug. 22, 1958, in Ortonville, Mich., and served as missionaries to Andros, Bahamas in 1964. He has served his Savior ever since, and was ordained in 1988. Al attended the Columbus United Methodist Church, Sandusky and was a life member of the Clyde VFW 3343 and a former member of the American Legion Post 83.
He is survived by his wife, Lerita; children, William (Theresa) Waitman of Auburn Heights, Mich., Albert (Ricketta) Waitman Jr. of Sandusky and Carol (Richard) Desmond of Desoto, Texas; grandchildren, Bonnie Waitman, Amanda and Joe Waitman, Michael, Daniel, Ashley and Amber Desmond; and nieces, Connie (Jim) Wymer and Francine (Tom) Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Evelyn Cotterman and Dorothy Waitman; and nephew, Leo Star.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Saturday until services at 2 p.m. in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Richard Desmond will officiate. Burial will be in Four Mile House Cemetery, Fremont.
