Michael F. Wood, 84, of Bellevue, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, in Bellevue Hospital.
Mr. Wood was born May 21, 1923, in Bellevue, to the now deceased Harry R. and Elizabeth Ann (Bauman) Wood. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a life member of the Bellevue VFW. He was a skilled carpenter, who could build or repair anything. Among his was his ability and joy in making model cars. Mike enjoyed all sports, but particularly the Indians and the Browns. In 1985, he retired from the former Ohio Edison, after 40 years of services, ending as a head lineman. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army.
He is survived by one son, Thomas C. Wood of Bellevue; two daughters, Valerie Ann (Steven) Parish of Dublin and Diana Lynn Wood of Newburgh, Ind., and a granddaughter, Katherine (Katy) Stinson; three sisters and one brother, Edna Thornton of Green Springs, Norma Moore of Fremont, Anita Porczak of Defiance and Harley Wood of Clyde.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Farber) Wood, whom he married Feb. 2, 1946 and she died Nov. 11, 2005; a son, Steven Michael Wood; and siblings; Rolland Wood, Geraldine Griffin, Harry "Babe" Wood Jr. and Elsie Wood.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue, where the Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Bellevue, with the Rev. Keith Stripe officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Bellevue, with military rites being provided by the Bellevue American Legion and VFW.
