Barbara Ann Bowes, 81, of Port Clinton Road, Fremont, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 8, 2007, in Elmwood Assisted Living of Fremont.
Barbara was born Dec. 9, 1925, in Mason, Mich., to Guy and Edna M. (Dersham) Rhodes, but was raised by Lloyd and Elsie Rhoades. She was a 1943 Fremont Ross Graduate and obtained her B.S. degree in education from Bowling Green State University. Barbara married John W. Bowes July 1, 1950, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Fremont, and he preceded her in death in 1989. Barbara taught fifth grade for more than 25 years at Stamm Elementary School until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Retired Teachers Association and was a 50-year Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron. Barbara enjoyed planning class reunions, reading, crossword puzzles, baseball, football and antiques.
She is survived by her daughters, Jane Bowes of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Margo Capucini of Fremont; grandchildren, Sarah (Mike) Warring and Dan and John Fowler; a brother, Don Rhodes of Fremont; and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her biological and foster parents; husband, John; infant son, John David; brothers, Dean, Bob, and Edgar Rhodes; and a sister, Norma.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch St., Fremont, with Eastern Star services at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 206 North Park Ave., Fremont, with Pastor Daniel Orr officiating Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
