Jane (Fritz) Maddrell, 84, of 2215 Westwind Drive, Sandusky, passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 28, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, after a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Graytown, Ohio. She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1940 and from the Cleveland School of Art and Western Reserve University in 1944. She and her husband Donald celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary June 24, 2007. She taught art in Sandusky Public Schools for many years.
She was a member and past regent of the Martha Pitkin Chapter of DAR, and College Women's Club. She is a member of the Sandusky Garden Club, Sandusky Yacht Club, Plum Brook Country Club, Pine Ridge Country Club of Cleveland, and the Royal Palm Country Club of Naples, Fla. She served on the board of directors for Cancer Services of Erie County and was a volunteer in the gift shop at the former Good Samaritan Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; two daughters, Betsy (David) McCoy of Hilton Head, S.C., and Mary Gail (John) Betz of Fitchburg, Wis.; her son, Paul (Carla) Maddrell of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; and grandchildren, Katherine Bonnell and Fritz D. Maddrell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ethel (Hesselbart) Fritz, and a much loved grandson, Christopher McCoy.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. Thursday until funeral services at 11 a.m. at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. John Mawhirter will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
