Joseph P. Veverka, 89, of Marblehead, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, in Edgewood Manor Nursing Center in Port Clinton.
He was born Nov. 4, 1917, in Marblehead, the son of Samuel and Francis (Luska) Veverka, now deceased. Joe was a brick layer for Local 46 of Fremont, retiring in 1979. He was a veteran of WWII serving four years in the U.S. Army and was a charter member of the VFW Post 7572 of Marblehead. He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church.
Surviving are his sons, Robert (Cindy) of Arizona, Gerald of Marblehead, David (Shelley) of Sandusky and Dean of Oak Harbor; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Brenzo), Sept. 25, 1998; a daughter, Brenda Thompson; brothers, Frank, Anthony, Michael and John; and sisters, Anna Zura, Julia Zippay, Mary Koran, Rose Lickfelt, Elizabeth Guba and Agnes Veverka.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, Marblehead, where Panachida services will be at 7 p.m. Further visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the Office of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church with the Rev. Basil Hutsko officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 7572.
