Marie A. Hassinger, 89, of Sandusky, died late Tuesday evening, Sept. 25, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 24, 1917, in Perry County, Ohio. Marie lived in Zanesville for many years and attended Meridith Business College. She worked as an accountant and secretary. Marie was a member of the National Secretary's Association and the Business of Professional Women's Association before moving to Columbus, there she was the financial secretary for the Ohio Savings and Loan League until she moved to Sandusky. Marie and her husband, Randal Hessinger, were co-owners of Worthmore Furniture Co. in Sandusky until they retired in 1988.
She also enjoyed being a realtor with Stradmiller Reality for many years. Marie was a member of First Baptist Church and she enjoyed dancing.
Marie is survived by her son, Larry Bartow of Sandusky; three grandchildren, Larry (Andrea) Bartow Jr. of Toledo, Deidre (Michael) Naufel of Fremont, and Bridget (Bradley) Castle of Sandusky; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Ryan and Courtney Naufel and Emilie Bartow; two step-sons, Robert and Randall Hassinger; her companion, Walter Samko of Sandusky; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel Bartow; her second husband, Randall Hassinger in 1993; her parents, Matthew and Lulu Walpole; one brother, Everett Walpole; one sister, Myrtle Hinkel; and daughter-in-law, Judith K. Bartow.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. Saturday until services at 1 p.m. in First Baptist Church, 211 E. Monroe St, Sandusky. Pastor Dan Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
