Paul E. Maschari, 83, of Sandusky, died early Saturday morning, Sept. 22, 2007, in Lutheran Memorial Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born on March 5, 1924, in Sandusky. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1941 and attended both The Ohio State University and Akron University. Mr. Maschari enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943 and graduated from Selman Field Navigation School. He served with the 643rd bomb squad and the 409th bomb group during the European Theater, receiving the Air Medal. He owned and operated Maschari Bros. from 1945 until his death.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church; Huron Eagles; Knights of Columbus 4th degree; Sandusky Elks 285; VFW post 2529; American Legion post 83; 409th Bomb Group Association; Selman Field Association; and the Air Force Navigators' Observer Association.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Ginesi of Medina, Ohio, and Jane and Bill Gosser of Sandusky; one son, Pete Maschari of Berlin Heights; nine grandchildren. Amanda, Megan, Melissa, Meridith, Pete, Aaron, Seth, Jillian and Alli; two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Hunter; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne E. (Oswald) Maschari, in 2005; his parents, Peter and Elsie (Geisert) Maschari; one sister, Sally Maschari Braunstein; and one brother, Bob Maschari.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Thursday followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Sandusky. The Rev. Marty Nassr will officiate. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery of Sandusky.
