Wiley McCarty, 83, of Sandusky, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, after a brief illness.
Mr. McCarty was born Sept. 5, 1924, in Waynesboro, Miss., and had lived in Sandusky since 1959. He retired from the Lorain Ford Plant after more than 25 years of service, where he worked in the cushion department. He was the owner and operator of McCarty Garage, 2028 Wayne St., in Sandusky. He was a former chairman of the deacon board, chairman of the trustee board, former president of the senior choir and sang in the male chorus at New Jerusalem Baptist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Order of St. John Lodge Number 192 in Sandusky. He enjoyed fishing and helping others in the community.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Linda McCarty (Westbrook) of Sandusky; daughters, Patricia McCarty of Columbia, Mo., and Anita (Larry) Shoemo of Columbus; son, Anthony (TrLanna) McCarty of Sandusky; god-children, Dennis Shelby, Sharon McDonald and Narleatha Myers; stepdaughters, Rhonda Westbrook, LaJuan Owens, Deann Westbrook and Atoya Westbrook, all of Sandusky; brothers, Issac (Nola) McCarty Jr. of Steward, Fla., Willie B. McCarty of Sandusky and Samuel (Classie) McCarty of Sandusky; sisters, Albenie Richey of Sandusky, Nettie (Claude) Mercair of Chicago, Ill., Ozella Grant of Sandusky, and Margerie (Frazier) Warshom of Waynesboro, Miss., 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
Mr. McCarty was preceded in death by his first wife, Lora V. McCarty (Jackson); daughter, Lora Jean Daniels; parents, Issac and Nettie (Gaines) McCarty; six sisters, Hazel Sumlin, Lucille Matthews, Penni Mae McCarty, Emma Teddar, Pinkie McGrew and Erlene Morgan; brother, David McCarty; maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday in New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1920 Shelby St., Sandusky, where services will be 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Eddy Henry, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Sandusky.
