Viola Georgia Neumeyer, 97, of Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2007, in Providence Care Center, Sandusky, after a week's residence.
She was born July 25, 1910, in Sandusky, where she was a life long resident. Viola was a 1929 graduate of Sandusky High School. Viola was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and a cherished great-grandmother. She will long be remembered for her tireless and dedicated service to the former Calvary Episcopal Church, where she served on the altar guild, vestry, quilting guild and where she organized innumerable dinners and socials. She was also a member of the Singara Caldron 60. Viola lived her life with a gracious and sweet spirit and a compassionate and caring heart. She remains an inspiration to all that have known her. Her long life and legacy of love has blessed many throughout her years.
She is survived by one son, Tom A. (Despo) Neumeyer of Marietta, Ga.; one daughter, Geraldine Meredith of Sandusky; five grandchildren, Tom (Jerri) Meredith of Whitesburg, Ga., Jacquelyn (Jon) Shapiro of Rockville, Md., Christine (Brad) Sanders of Fairfield, Pa., Josh (Lisa) Neumeyer of Arlington, Tenn., John Neumeyer of Long Beach, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Strickland, Dawson Sanders, Madeline Shapiro, Molly Shapiro and Megan Neumeyer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson R. Neumeyer in 1982; her father, George Nath; her mother and stepfather, Chester and Rose (Ott) Scheufler; and one brother, Howard Nath.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and from 1 p.m. Friday until services at 2 p.m. in Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Webster Maughan, chaplain of Stein Hospice, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
