LAKE WELLS, FLA.
Donald Arthur Twining, 83, of Lake Wales, Fla., formerly of Marblehead, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007. He was born July 15, 1924, on Catawba Island to the now deceased Raymond L. Twining and Agnes Flynn Elwell. He retired from Vulcan Materials, Bay Billets Plant in Sandusky. A veteran of World War II serving with the 7th Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division receiving a Purple Heart for combat action at Anzio. He is a life time member of the Marblehead Post of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ralph W. Elwell; and brother, Morris Twining.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived and dearly missed by his beloved wife of 59 years, Itha Margaret (Higley) Twining; son, Dean A (Jean) Twining; daughter, Cynthia (William) Zieber; grandson, Aaron (Sara) Zieber; granddaughter, Denise (Justin) Leach; his pride of the last six months great-grandson, David William Zieber; brother, Raymond Twining; sisters ,Mary Francis (Twining) Miller and Lily Mae (Twining) Dress; half brother, Leslie Twining; half sister, LeAnn (Twining) Hayes; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Don and Margaret are residents of Saddlebag Lake Resort, Lake Wales, where he was a member of the Saddlebag Lake Men's Golf Club and the Saddlebag Lake Community Church.
A Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sept. 22, 2007, in Faith United Methodist Church, Port Clinton. The Rev. Ted Austin presiding.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Donald's name to the Mt. Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Road, Columbus, OH 43215.
