Florine J. Belcher - January 23, 1935-September 7, 2007

Oct 23, 2014

TAMPA, FLA.

Florine "Flo" J. (Acord) Belcher, 72, a resident of Berlin Heights for 40 years, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, in Tampa, Fla., during surgery for lung cancer.

Flo was born Jan. 23, 1935, in the rugged coal mining "camp" of Lando Mines, in Mingo County, W.Va. She married George Belcher on Oct. 7, 1950, and they remained together for 54 years until George's death Oct. 7, 2004. In the mid 50s they moved to Berlin Heights when most of Flo's family (the Canterburys and Acords) migrated north to get factory jobs. Flo and George had five children and Flo worked full-time at Fanny Farmer's Candy factory in Norwalk for 30 years. When Flo retired in the 90s, they moved to Tampa. During the summer they came north and stayed with Flo's sister, Barbara, in Berlin Heights, so that they could be close to everyone here. Family was always Flo's first priority and she was always ready to help people. She enjoyed doing favors for others and will be missed by many.

Flo loved to cook ad had a huge collection of recipe cards from which she lovingly prepared many delicious foods. Nobody ever left her home hungry or without "care" packages of good home-cooked foods. Flo was a die-hard Cleveland Indians and Browns fan and often wore team logo clothing and jewelry. When Flo got her first cell phone with free long distance, she was in telephone heaven. She could talk for hours to family and friends in Ohio while she was in Tampa for the long winter season. She could stay connected to all the people she cared about. Her favorite prayer was "this is the day which the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. "

Flo was greeted in heaven by her husband, George Belcher; an infant son, Gary Belcher; her grandparents, Rebecca and Shelby Canterbury and her parents, Ruby and Tom Acord, all of Berlin Heights; her brother, Dewey Acord of Vermilion; two brothers, Curtis and Emmet Acord of Michigan; and numerous Canterburys.

Flo will be missed by her four children, Tommy Belcher and Phyllis Butler, both of Tampa, Terry Belcher of Dallas, Texas, and Tim Belcher of Norwalk; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Shelby Jean (Acord) Hendrickson of Norwalk; a brother, Charles Ray Acord of Avon Lake, Ohio; two uncles; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be 1-6 p.m., Sept. 29, 2007, in the American Legion Hall, Ohio 61, Berlin Heights, north of town.

Cards and condolences may be sent to 9640 Lake Pine Place, Tampa, FL 33635.
