Doris E. Koch, 94, of Sandusky, passed away Monday evening, Sept.10, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, after a period of declining health.
She was born July 18, 1913, in Sandusky and was a 1932 graduate of Sandusky High School, where she was selected as the female recipient of the 1932 Michigan trophy for outstanding leadership. She worked as a secretary at the former Hinde & Dauch Paper Company and Koch Insurance & Real Estate Agency Inc. Doris was a life-long active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sandusky, where she had served as president of the Women of the Church. She had been a member of Plum Brook Country Club for many years, enjoying her happy days in the 9-Hole League. She was also a long-time member of the Sandusky Yacht Club. Until her recent health problems, she had been a member of the same bridge club since her early 20s.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Nelson) Sprague of Matthews, N.C.; one son, Ralph F. (Joanna) Koch Jr.; two grandchildren, Michael and Rebecca Koch; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ralph "Bud" Koch, whom she married in 1939; her father, Howard H. Boss in 1931; her mother, Clara (Hessler) Boss Hofer in 1969; her stepfather, Lawrence Hofer in 1973; and her sisters, Betty (Robert) Bowen and Violet (Robert) Hoffman.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday in Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky andfrom 9:30 a.m Friday until services at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2211 Mills St., Sandusky. The Rev. Dr. Gary R. Ulrich will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
