Melba Gertrude (Mehling) Hemminger passed into eternal life Saturday morning, Sept. 8, 2007, two weeks short of her 82nd birthday. She was surrounded by her husband and children, receiving the caring attention of Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

She was born Sept. 21, 1925, in Sandusky, to Dorothy (Bundschuh) and Charles Mehling. She attended school in Sandusky and graduated from St. Mary High School in 1943. She was always willing to give of herself to others, donating her time throughout the years to the Community Supper in Sandusky, Providence Hospital, Altar Rosary Society and St. Mary's Church and School in Sandusky. In recent years she was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Huron. She was a dedicated wife and homemaker, and was always willing to provide love and support to her family and friends. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, cooking and crocheting.

Those remaining behind who will cherish her memory include her loving husband of more than 61 years, Robert Hemminger; three sons and five daughters, James Hemminger of Willits, Calif., Jean Frueh of Lima, Ohio, Kathleen (Thomas) Dence of Huron, Lois (Michael) Rubino of Garland, Texas, Donald (Melinda) Hemminger of Beavercreek, Ohio, Elaine (Michael) McNulty of Huron, Gary (Melissa) Hemminger of Nokesville, Va., and Karen (Mark) Langan of Huron; 19 grandchildren, Willow (William) (Hemminger) Obell, Jesse, Orin and Lilith Hemminger, Michael Frueh, Robert, Paul and Daniel Dence, Krishna and Ida Hemminger, Maureen, Patrick and Megan McNulty, Drew, Savannah, Dillon and Taylor Hemminger, and Benjamin and Joshua Langan; three stepgrandchildren, Jennifer, Ashley and Shannon Phillips; one great-grandchild, Justin Frueh; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elvera Pankow, and three brothers, Carl, Donald and Norman Mehling.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where prayer services will be at 9:15 a.m. Thursday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron. The Rev. Jeffrey Sikorski will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
