Sep 1, 2015

Stan L. Hart, 59, formerly of Bucyrus and recently of Mansfield, died unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, in Mansfield Med Central.

Stan was born April 24, 1948, in Bucyrus to Marvel E. Hart, now deceased, and Ernestine L. (Furniss) Hart, who survives in Bucyrus. He was formerly married to Gloria (Buckley) Benschoter.

In addition to his mother, Stan is survived by a daughter, Christie (Andy) Hoy of Gibsonburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Emily, Kameill, and Stevie; brother, Randy (Renee) Hart of Sandusky; sister, Rhonda (Steve) Miller of Chatfield, Ohio; and nieces, nephews and numerous aunts and uncles.

Stan began learning martial arts in high school and continued this as an occupation for the last 40 years. He graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1967 and moved from Bucyrus in 1985. Sensei Hart was a noted martial artist, published in many leading MA publications. He was an instructor's instructor -- he taught owners of leading martial arts schools all over the Northeast U.S., but mainly in New York and Ohio. Stan was an instructor and an employee of OSU, Mansfield, teaching an accredited self-defense and karate course. He was also Chief Instructor at Marion YMCA & Family Martial Arts Center in Mansfield. Sensei Hart began training in karate in 1964. He was still active in martial arts and attained Master Rank of 8th Dan Black Belt in Okinawan and Japanese Karate. Sensei Hart was chief instructor for the Shurite Kempo Association and the Hakuda Technique Society. He conducted the Karate Challenge Tournament in Sandusky for 28 years.

He will be remembered and missed by thousands of karate students and instructors in Ohio and New York, but he will be remembered mostly for his skill in old karate, and also founding many of the local YMCA and other karate programs in North Central Ohio.

Hart was an avid photographer and recently became a professional doing such things as senior pictures.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, 215 N. Walnut St., Bucyrus. Pastor Nate Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Crawford County Memory Gardens.
