Brenda Kay Balch, 61, of Sandusky, died unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, in her home.
She was born Aug. 14, 1946, in Harrisburg, Ill. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sandusky. She started a program for domestic violence and child abuse. Brenda always put her family first, helped foster more than 140 children and hosted five foreign exchange students. She "never met a stranger."
Brenda is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mike Balch; mother, Juanita (Stone) Thaxton; granddaughters, Taylor Renee Balch-Thomson and Ceaira Renee Balch, both of Sandusky; foster daughter, Jodie (Don) Horne of Clyde; siblings, Linda Vineyard, Kimmy Upchurch, Gerry Thaxton, Terry Thaxton and Dennis Thaxton, all of Harrisburg; many other foster children and foster grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Thaxton; daughters, Dennetta Balch and Michelle Renee Balch-Thomson; son, Gary Michael Balch Jr.; and grandmother, Georgina Stone.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
