Jasper E. "Jack" Meekins, 80, of 619 Pierce St., Sandusky, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2007, in EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 9, 1927, in New York City, to Cylesta (Dienzer) and Jasper Meekins, now deceased. He retired from Scott Paper Company in January 1979, after 27 years. He was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, a life member of American Legion Post 83, the Huron Eagles, and for several years he was the scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 2 of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and especially his four grandchildren.
On March 26, 1951, in the rectory of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, he married Henrietta M. Huber, his surviving widow. He is also survived by an aunt, Miss Velma Erforth of Sandusky; two sons, Lt. Cmdr. James (Kathy) Meekins U.S.N., R.N., P.N.P., of Camp Lejeune, N.C., and Jeff Meekins of Sandusky and Arizona; four grandchildren, Kara, Patrick, Bradley and Kelsey; and nieces and nephews.
At his request, cremation will take place. Private family services will be at David F. Koch Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Heintzelman officiating. Interment will be later in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
