Mary Lee Wood, 90, of Sandusky, died on Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus.
She was born Feb. 28, 1917, in Birmingham, Ala. She was employed by New Departure-Delphi for more than 10 years, retiring in 1984, and was previously employed by Philco for more than years, The Sandusky Board of Education, and the Sandusky Neighborhood Center (CAC).
She was a life member of Second Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the senior choir, the Missionary Union and the Matrons Club. She was involved in the Volunteer Center, the Red Cross for more than 30 years, was Residential Chairperson of Cancer Services of Erie County, Care & Share, the Human Relations Commission Board and Democratic Women's Club.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Maxine (James) Wyche of North Carolina, Phyllis (Jerry) Powel of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Jessica Wood of Los Angeles, Anita Madden, Marion, Ohio, and Wende (Roy) Andrews of San Antonio; sons, Thomas (Edith) Wood of Oberlin, Walter Wood of Fayetteville, N.C., Joseph Wood of Flint, Mich., Kenneth (Verlene) Wood of Sandusky and Lawson Wood of Dallas, N.C.; 34 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; special sister-in-law, Christine Wood; special brother-in-law, Lawson Wood; special godson, Gary Knutti of Orville, Ohio; special niece, Patricia Sizemore of Sandusky; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Lowell Wood; parents, L.A. and Cora (Hendrix) Thomas; granddaughters, Halle Powell and Belinda Sue Green; grandson, Wesley Green; sisters, Daisy Mathews, Jessie Gayle, Lorie Thomas; daughter-in-law, Gloria Wood; and several other sisters, brothers, relatives and close friends.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday with Pastor W. Benson Stephens Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
